Settings, tray and quitting
Settings (the navbar gear, or ⌘/Ctrl + ,) is grouped into App (General, Appearance, Terminal), Development (Web Preview, Mobile, Editor), Agents (Agents, Notifications) and Other (Keyboard Shortcuts, Advanced). The search box at the top finds any setting across every page. A setting you changed shows a blue dot and a reset button; the nav shows how many you changed per page, Reset section puts one page back, and Advanced → Reset all settings puts everything back without touching your workspaces. Preferences persist between launches.
A few worth knowing:
- Appearance → Interface zoom scales the whole app chrome (80–140%); terminal text keeps its own font size.
- Terminal — scrollback length, cursor style and blink, and Copy on select (a mouse selection goes straight to the clipboard).
- General → New workspace — the agent, worktree switch and folder the composer starts with.
- Editor → Open files in — which editor a
⌘/Ctrl + Clickon a path opens; if it isn't installed the next one found is used. - Mobile — mirroring resolution (default: device native), bitrate (default: 16 Mbps), frame rate, a forced software decoder (try it if the picture stays black), keep awake, show touches, turn the device screen off, and reconnecting the last device when the tab opens. Changes apply the next time mirroring starts.
- Advanced → Diagnostics shows the local MCP server URL agents connect to.
Closing the window hides TAO CODING to the tray and everything keeps running; tray → Quit is what actually exits. Prefer closing to mean quitting? Turn off Settings → General → Close to tray — closing the window then ends every terminal, like Quit. Launching a second copy just focuses the window you already have. On Windows, closing a pane kills the entire process tree it started — no orphaned build servers.
